AFRICA | A 27-year-old lady becomes the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in Security Engineering, breaking a record at a US university.
The first African-American woman to receive a PhD in Security Engineering from the University of Colorado in the United States is 27-year-old Christine Izuakor.
Christine became the youngest person to graduate from this program since the university’s founding, in addition to breaking the record for being the first African-American woman to do so.

Christine commented on how she started her PhD path at the young age of 23 and shared her accomplishment on LinkedIn.
She remembered being told she was too young, too unsophisticated, and too untrained to contribute significantly to her field. She stayed dedicated to her dream, nonetheless, and used those uncertainties as inspiration.
At DeVry University in Illinois, where she began her college career, Christine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a security management minor.
She subsequently pursued a master’s degree in information systems security at the University of Houston.
She stated that she has presented her unique contributions to the security business at esteemed worldwide conferences, such as those in South Korea and Italy, and that her research has been published in a number of international journals.
According to Christine, she is telling her experience to encourage people, especially those who have been told that their aspirations are unattainable. She underlined that one may surpass all boundaries and attain greatness with perseverance and hard work.
