University of Buffalo Scholarship Details:
The University of Buffalo Scholarship offers PhD and MS opportunities in Computational Hydrology at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
The newly established Actionable Computational Terrestrial Hydrology Lab (a.c.t. hydro lab), led by Dr. Yifan Cheng at the Department of Geology at the State University of New York, is excited to invite applications from motivated students pursuing Ph.D. or M.S. degrees in Geological Sciences with a focus on computational hydrology.
In the a.c.t. hydro lab, we develop innovative numerical modeling methods to enhance the assessment of water-related sectors’ resilience to climate change, with a particular focus on cold regions.
The laboratory collaborates with social scientists and experts from water-related sectors, including power and ecosystems, as well as local communities, to improve the relevance, clarity, and usability of our data and modeling products.
Eligibility Requirements for University of Buffalo Graduate Scholarship 2025
To be considered for the University of Buffalo Graduate Scholarship, the following key requirements must be met:
Basic qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Earth and Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Experience in coding (e.g., Python, Fortran, C++) and data analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in related field
- Experience with physically based hydrologic models
- Enthusiasm for actionable science and interdisciplinary research involving experts from hydrology and broad water-related sectors
- Proficiency in programming languages and prior research experience in the relevant fields is highly desirable.
