The Hungary Government Scholarship 2025–2026 offers overseas students full funding. Tuition, a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700, a monthly accommodation payment of HUF 40,000, and medical insurance up to HUF 60,000 per individual are all covered by the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship.

The Tempus Public Foundation oversees the initiative, which was established by the Hungarian government in 2013 and is run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
It is already offered on five continents in over 70 countries and draws more than 5000 international students annually. It is founded on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and the governments of the sending nations. Coverage of Government Scholarships in Hungary
The following advantages are offered to the recipient of the Hungary Government Scholarship:
• Free education;
• No tuition fees must be paid;
• Monthly stipend;
• Monthly contribution to living expenses in Hungary of HUF 43,700 (about EUR 130) for 12 months of the year, till studies are finished
• Doctoral level: under current Hungarian law, the scholarship value is HUF 140 000 (about EUR 450) each month for the first four semesters of study and HUF 180 000 (approximately EUR 580) for the second four semesters. The scholarship is awarded for 12 months of the year, until the student’s studies are finished. Details are provided in section 1.2.1.
• Contribution for accommodations
- Free dorm space or a monthly contribution of HUF 40,000 to housing expenses for the duration of the scholarship period. Please be aware that the HUF 40,000 per month is a contribution to the rental costs if the student does not live in the dorm, and in larger cities, particularly the capital city, this contribution would not cover the entire rental cost.
• Health insurance
• Medical services in accordance with the applicable Hungarian laws (Act No. 80 of 1997, national health insurance card) and additional health insurance up to HUF 60,000 (about EUR 205) per person annually

- Documents Needed for the Government Scholarship in Hungary
• Online Application Form: Applicants must complete the online application form in English and save all relevant information.
• A current photo of the applicant that was taken no more than two years prior to the application being submitted
• When applying for partial (exchange) studies, applicants must specify the start date (September or February) and duration of the study (one or two semesters).
• Letter of Motivation:
• Type at least one page using Times New Roman 12 point font. - Evidence of language competency and translations into Hungarian or the language of the chosen study program
• A scanned copy of the original documentation of language competency, with the host institution’s minimal level and translations
• A proof that the applicant’s language of education and the language of the study program they are currently applying for are the same can be uploaded if the student has finished their prior level of education in the language of the chosen study program.
Bachelor-level full-time programs: scanned copies of the original secondary school graduation certificate or equivalent AND their translations; school certificates and their translations in the chosen study program’s language or in Hungarian - Scan copies of the original bachelor’s degree certificate or its equivalent, along with translations, are required for full-time master’s programs.
• Scan copies of the original secondary school graduation certificate or its equivalent, along with translations, are required for one-tier master level full-time programs.
Scan copies of the original master’s degree certificate or its equivalent, along with translations, are required for doctoral level work.
• Non-degree programs that prepare students for the Hungarian language: scanned copies of secondary school graduation certificates and their translations
• For non-degree, specialized programs, the host institution requires a scanned copy of the degree certificate together with its translations.
• All study levels for partial (exchange) programs: scanned copies of the original student status certificate from the present higher education institution where the applicant is enrolled, along with translations - Translations only have to be attached if the copy of the original document is not in the language of the selected study programme or in English
• Transcript of Records and its translations in the language of the selected study programme or in Hungarian
• Copy of the original transcript of records regarding all academic semesters or school years completed during previous studies (in the highest level of education that the student have participated in) AND their translations
• Translations must only be included if the original document’s copy is not in Hungarian or the language of the chosen study program.
A scanned copy of a medical certificate attesting to an acceptable state of health that was issued no earlier than November 15, 2021 - A doctor must issue and sign certificates attesting to the applicant’s lack of the following conditions: Hepatitis A, B, C, AIDS, or any other pandemic disease

• The statement can only be accepted in the online system, so scanned and signed copies should not be uploaded
• If the applicant does not yet have a passport, the applicant should upload a scanned copy of any document that may be used to prove their identity (such as a national ID card). - Following registration, the statement is shown in the online application system; all candidates must click to accept it in order to submit their application.
The translations must be supplied with a copy of the original document for any documents that cannot be generated or obtained in Hungarian or the language of the chosen study program. - Research Plan
• At least two pages, written in the chosen study program’s language, and typed in Times New Roman 12 point font size letters
Two signed letters of recommendation from the applicant’s current or previous academic supervisors or tutors are required; they cannot be issued by the same individual; they must be written in Hungarian or the language of the chosen study program.
How Can I Apply for a Government Scholarship in Hungary?
To apply for this scholarship, please follow the steps listed below:
1. Locate the program of your choice: Each partner country has different study fields available. You have two options: either start an application in the DreamApply system and choose the appropriate study program, or visit the SH website to see the study field offered for your nation. The list of suitable study fields and sending partners is available here.
- Get in touch with your sending partner: Applications must also be sent to the sending partner’s accountable authority. The procedures and timeframes for submitting the application materials may vary depending on the sending partner. To find out the specific steps involved, get in touch with your sending partner (this could be the Hungarian Embassy in your area, the relevant ministry, the council, etc.).
- Create an account and upload your supporting documentation: Applications are handled online at apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu. Only two options are available, however you can peruse 29 institutions and colleges with over 600 degree programs. Verify that the programs you have selected are pertinent to the subject you are studying. Please keep in mind that you must locate a supervisor if you apply for a PhD program. Depending on your country and academic level, other documents may be needed. These criteria are listed below under “Documents.”
- Application deadline: You have to submit your application by the due date. Before submitting your application, please ensure that all necessary fields are correctly filled out and that all necessary papers are attached. Please see the deadline for applications at the top!
5. Nomination list from sending partners: By the end of February, sending partners will select the top candidates, and the nominated applications will be sent to the selected higher education institutions in Hungary. - Hungarian University Entrance Exam: The universities will contact the selected candidates directly to arrange a time and date for the entrance exams, which will take place between mid-March and late May. For your application to be considered for the final scholarship award list, your exam scores must be at least 56 out of 100 points.
