Benefits of the 2024 Confucius Institute Scholarship
The Confucius Institute scholarship covers tuition and living expenses (in a shared room or in a university house), basic health insurance, and a monthly personal expense allowance, which is split as follows:
• BTCSOL students or those enrolled in Chinese language and culture courses pay 2,500 Yuan (about 350 USD) per month.
• For MTCSOL students, the monthly payment is 3,000 Yuan, or roughly 420 USD.
The notion of scholarship recipients residing off campus (rejecting housing in the university resident hall) has recently been discussed. In these situations, the Confucius Institute provides 700 Yuan a month to cover rental costs (on top of the monthly stipend).
For scholarships that last longer than a year, the Confucius Institute evaluates the recipients’ qualifications every year and requires exceptional performance in order to renew the entire amount of funds for the subsequent year. The Confucius Institute either does not renew the scholarship or, in certain situations, provides partial funding (which covers all expenses save the monthly allowance for personal expenses) if the student’s performance are below average. Confucius Institute Scholarship Categories and Duration

• Academic year scholarships: These eleven months might begin in either March (until January of the following year) or September (until July of the following year).

Typically, the three CIS scholarships for Chinese language teacher training begin in March or September. These scholarships need an online application. How Can I Apply for the 2024 Scholarship at the Confucius Institute?
Please follow these steps to apply for a scholarship from the Confucius Institute:
1. Application deadline: If you want to apply for a scholarship to begin in September, you have until the beginning of May (typically day 1) to do so; if you want to start in March, you have until the beginning of November.
2. Application delivery: Get in touch with the scholarship coordinator if you are a Confucius Institute student, as this is the best way to apply for this award. The application must be submitted online through the Confucius Institute scholarships’ official website; all supporting documentation, including a passport-sized photo and your passport, must be scanned.
After that, you have to turn in all of the necessary paper documents (certified copies are preferred because they won’t be returned). The person in charge of your Confucius Institute’s scholarships will be in responsibility of mailing them to Hanban’s headquarters, which are the Confucius Institute’s central offices in China. If you are not a Confucius Institute student, you can apply online and send the necessary paperwork to the Confucius Institute that is closest to you, a Chinese embassy or consulate in your nation, or certain Hanban-affiliated testing locations or educational establishments in your nation.
1. Date of result: If you start in September, you can view the final scholarship students’ results on the Confucius Institute scholarships website at the beginning of July; if you start in March, you can find the results at the beginning of January.
2. Sending the required paperwork to process the visa: Within 15 days of the results being released, the required paperwork is mailed. You could have to wait over a month to receive the letter at this stage of the process, so I advise patience.
Qualifications for the 2024 Confucius Institute Scholarship
The paperwork and prerequisites for the Confucius Institute Scholarship are as follows:
- Enjoy good health and are not of Chinese nationality. To process your residency visa in China, you must demonstrate that you are in good physical and mental health if you plan to study for more than six months. You must provide a properly filled-out copy of the official Chinese medical form or Foreigner Physical Examination Form after you arrive at your target university (this is not a necessary document during the application period).
- Candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 35 (the age limit is raised to 45 for those who can prove they were employed as Chinese teachers at the time of application). Undergraduate scholarship applicants cannot be older than 20.
- A degree of proficiency in the Chinese language is required (oral and written HSK as well as, in certain situations, BCT and oral BCT are also accepted). The type of scholarship determines this criteria. For instance, you must receive at least 180 points in the written HSK3 and at least 60 points in the oral HSK in order to be eligible for a scholarship to study Chinese language and culture. - Minimum qualification: In order to be eligible for the MTCSOL scholarship, you must present your undergraduate degree and academic record. You must provide proof that you have finished your high school education in order to be eligible for the BTCSOL scholarship or the Chinese language classes. You will need to provide a sworn translation into either Chinese or English if you do not already have this paperwork in either language.
5. A recommendation letter for scholarship applicants who wish to enroll in BTCSOL or a Chinese course, and two for MTCSOL scholarship applicants. The person in charge of the Confucius Institute, where you submit your scholarship application, needs to sign the letters. - Candidates for the MTCSOL scholarship will be given preference if they can show that, following their master’s degree studies in China, they are employed as Chinese language instructors.
7. You are a first-time student in China for one-semester or four-week scholarships.
NOTE: You must submit a brief (about 300 words) motivation letter outlining your goals and reasons for applying for the scholarship as part of the online application process.
