12 years after becoming a Lawyer in Nigeria, smart woman achieves success overseas, gets summoned to US and Canada Bar
AFRICA | Twelve years after graduating from Nigerian law school, a bright woman succeeds overseas and is admitted to the US and Canadian bars.
Twelve years after being called to the Nigerian Bar, Bimpe Ashogbon, a talented Nigerian lawyer, has accomplished extraordinary success by getting admitted to the US and Canada bars.
Bimpe celebrated her milestone on LinkedIn by announcing that she was now a Triple-Called International Attorney, having previously been called to the Nigerian Bar, the Canadian Bar, and now the New York State Bar.
When Bimpe thought back on her amazing journey, she remembered the moment she stepped on the stage in Nigeria twelve years ago and received her first legal license.
Even while it was a gratifying accomplishment, she was aware that it was just the start of a trip that would take her across countries and put her fortitude to the ultimate test.
Now that she was being called to the New York Bar, she thought back on the difficulties she had encountered, including the restless nights, the times when she doubted herself, and the unshakeable faith that kept her going when things seemed uncertain.
“This accomplishment, a worldwide bar admission in a nation where I do not reside, is a dream come true,” she remarked.

Bimpe called the experience “unreal,” especially when she heard the announcement of the various nationalities of her fellow lawyers. She conveyed her appreciation and delight at being a part of this global legal community.
Her partner’s constant encouragement, her amazing children who inspire her every day, her family and friends who back her at every turn, and her mentor who reminds her that great ambitions are possible are all reasons she attributes her success.
“The vision is even bigger this time, but this moment feels just as significant as my first lawyer’s oath in Nigeria,” she remarked.
Along with her accomplishments in law, Bimpe has a strong intellectual background. She graduated from Igbinedion University in Nigeria with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada with a second LLB.
Additionally, she holds two MBAs: one from Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business in Canada and another from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management in New York, as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) in Business Law from York University in Canada.
She is excited to contribute to a profession that is seeing revolutionary legislative changes as she embarks on her next chapter as an Energy Compliance Attorney based in the United States.
No matter how difficult the path may seem, Bimpe believes her tale will encourage others to keep going. “The outcomes are always worth the effort, regardless of how difficult the path may appear. Continue to grow and push yourself; if I can, you can too,” she urged.
